Ted’s thoughts on his trip to Fort Portal, Uganda

Volunteer Ted Mossop planting a treeI’d love to tell VMM my thoughts on our trip with OBAAT.

We didn’t know what to expect when we walked off the plane in Kampala, it was pitch black, warm, dry. When we drove down the Kampala to Fort Portal road there was so much to look at which made the 7 hour journey fly by.
A few days in we all started to settle down, get to know each other and realise how beautiful Uganda is.

Getting the know the locals/trainees was very funny, although they will ask loads of questions of what it’s like back home, they don’t mind answering questions abut their lives or teaching you a little Swahili. Ugandans are amazingly nice people, easy to get along with and made me feel welcome from the start.

After grafting hard throughout the week, we were able to explore Uganda at the weekends. The best thing for me was staying at kingfisher lodge, which had one of the best views I have ever seen looking across the green flat land was truly breath taking. Seeing all the animals on the safari was also a fantastic experience.

The OBAAT and VMM team did a fantastic job and were well organised.

All in all I had the time of my life in Uganda, great people, great experience and would 100% do it again if the chance came up. I would defiantly recommend it to anyone of any age.

Thank you again Marcelo you made our trip fantastic!! Loved every moment. Throughout the 3 weeks I don’t think I stopped smiling.
