You Are Invited to VMM’s 50th Anniversary Celebration
SAVE the DATE for VMM’s 50th Anniversary Celebration
September 9th, at Liverpool Hope University
Many, like founder Edwina Gateley, will be travelling from afar to join in the festivities commemorating 50 years of VMM. This is an opportunity to hear her speak of the early days of VMM and of her inspirational life of service to the vulnerable and marginalised in communities across the world. It will be a day of celebration, personal stories from the field, reminiscing with old friends and the making of new ones. It is sure to be a memory in itself and one not to be repeated … for another 50 years.
A Full Day Programme of Celebration
The event will formally begin with Church Service at 12 noon and follow with a full programme for the day, beginning in the Hope University Arbour Room. Here you can listen to several inspiring presentations and stories from returned VMs and guests. You will also hear about VMM’s crucial impact, current projects and partners. There will be plenty of time to meet and greet during lunch and an appetising dinner is organised for the evening. You must register to attend the celebration (please see details below). The AGM will be held on Tuesday at 11am, for those wishing to attend.
50 Years of Lay Missionary Volunteering with Communities Overseas
In 2019, we are commemorating the founding of VMM, one of the very first lay missionary organisations which, since 1969, has provided the training, support and opportunity to 3,000 professional and short term volunteers to volunteer their skills and service, in over 30 countries. We are celebrating the charism and determination of Edwina Gateley in persisting to push to secure the finances and support necessary to establish such a lay missionary organisation at a time when there were none. For 50 years VMM has empowered lay volunteers and the communities in which they live to “share who they are, not just what they have” and work together to overcome injustice and exclusion, provide health and education services and to open up opportunities to build upon their community’s development.
Celebrating 50 Years of Amazing VMM Volunteers
At the 50th Anniversary Celebration we are also celebrating YOU! VMM volunteers have done amazing work over the years and the experience of volunteering in communities overseas has had a transformative impact on our volunteers’ lives, as well as the communities which they served. We would be delighted to see you at our event in Liverpool to hear your VMM story and share your experience. If you would like to share it now you can email: email@example.com and we can share it on social media with the wider VMM family. And, be sure to keep up-to-date with the latest VMM news on Facebook and Twitter.
£20 (€23) Registration fee includes conference fees, lunch and refreshments. Please download the registration form.
